The Global Infrastructure and Cloud Engineer is responsible for the global operation, maintenance and management, covering not just data centre on premise Infrastructure, but also the firms SaaS, PaaS and IaaS platforms. The Global Infrastructure and Cloud Engineer will also be responsible for deploying and troubleshooting the core cloud stack and data centre infrastructure, ensuring the security of both environments is up to the required levels.

 

Responsibilities

Essential Functions: 

  • Collaborates with Infrastructure, Cloud, Cyber Security and Application Architects to evaluate and identify optimal on-premise data center and cloud solutions
  • Modifies and improves existing compute, storage, backup, virtualization and cloud systems, documenting changes
  • Ensures efficient functioning of data storage and processing functions in accordance with the firms security policies and best practices in cloud security and data center infrastructure architectures
  • Identifies, analyzes, and resolves on-premise datacenter and cloud infrastructure vulnerabilities and deployment issues
  • Regularly reviews existing systems and makes recommendations for improvements
  • Interacts with other IT teams, providing data center infrastructure and cloud support, making recommendations based on their requirements
  • Develops, maintains and documents data center Infrastructure and cloud best practices, guidelines, and guardrails for on-premise and cloud technologies
  • Creates clear & concise documentation of on-premise data center infrastructure and cloud  development and standards
  • Ensures the CMDB is updated with all new/decommissioned cloud instances/subscriptions added/removed from Mayer Brown services
  • Develops and deploys modular cloud-based systems
  • Provides automation enhancements to help keep the environment consistent, ease large tasks, ensure compliance, and helps with life cycle management
  • Operationalize solutions from proof-of-concept through production, using automation for repeatability, maintainability, and to enforce standards
  • Works with vendor partners to test and benchmark new hardware/software and virtualization technologies. Provides findings to Infrastructure Architects team and appropriate levels of management
  • Attends regular vendor meetings for areas of expertise, stays informed of latest technology roadmaps, security notifications, and bug/hot fixes
  • Ensures vendors provide proper levels of support, maintain SLA’s and provide root cause analysis for escalated issues
  • Works with application and infrastructure architects, application teams, and other infrastructure groups to ensure both new and existing systems follow BC/DR guidelines, have documented plans, and are tested and reviewed on a yearly basis
  • Ensures all team, departmental and firm policies and procedures are adhered to, including change management and service continuity
  • Completes all administrative tasks, i.e., (time tracking, project and task updates, trouble ticket notes, status reports, responding to email, etc.) accurately and on time
  • Communicates and collaborates with all members of the Data Center Engineering, IT Operations team, as well as other IT teams as needed
  • Fosters trust and builds relationships with the other Information Technology teams both globally and within the region
  • Acts as third level escalation point for the IT Operations team
  • Performs other duties as assigned or required to meet Firm goals and objectives

 

Qualifications

Education/Training/Certifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field. An equivalent combination of education and/or experience may be considered in lieu of the degree when the experience has been directly related to the functions of the job
  • VMware Certification is preferred
  • Storage certification in NAS and SAN technologies is preferred
  • Microsoft Azure Certification is preferred

 

Professional Experience:

  • Prior experience working on Data Center Infrastructure, such as compute, virtualization, storage and backup environments is required
  • Prior experience working with on-premise AD is required
  • Prior experience with Linux Administration is required
  • Minimum of 3 years of related experience, to include experience working with Microsoft Azure, IaaS, PaaS, SaaS platforms preferred.
  • Prior experience working with Azure AD is preferred
  • Prior experience working with Azure E5 Suite is preferred
  • Prior experience working in a global setting, preferred

 

Technical Skills: 

  • Knowledge of VMware, SAN/NAS storage, Compute, Backup solutions is required
  • Knowledge and experience with Linux is required
  • Knowledge and experience with PowerShell required
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products is required
  • Knowledge of Information Security best practices for Azure is preferred
  • Knowledge of MCAS is preferred
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Cloud Storage is preferred
  • Knowledge of encryption Key Management is preferred

Physical Requirements:
