The Practice Group Assistant generally will work under the direction of the partners, associates, and practice professionals in the practice group. Duties will be a mixture of entry- and mid-level analysis, regulatory agency monitoring, and industry and client research. The Assistant will at times exercise independent judgment and discretion to perform substantive research and practice support initiatives for the practice group. The Assistant will maintain positive contact with clients and observe confidentiality in client matters.

 

Responsibilities

Essential Functions: 

  • Research, writing and client matter support – Research at the direction of practice group attorneys/professionals on regulatory and legal issues, clients and prospective clients, industry trends and issues being followed by the practice group, and factual questions in connection with client matters. Prepare reports and memoranda  as necessary on the research to support the activities of the practice group, including a) supporting the practice group’s general understanding of business and legal issues; b) articles, speeches, presentations, book chapters; and c) assist with preparation of annual and periodic regulatory reports filed on behalf of the practice group’s clients.
  • Administrative responsibilities - Assist with filing of regulatory applications and submissions. Prepare letters, list of enclosures and exhibits to accompany license applications for submission to state agencies. At the direction of practice group attorneys, contact state regulators to obtain approvals, monitor status of filings and complete surveys of agency positions on regulatory matters.  Coordinate the distribution to clients and interested parties of publications/alerts written by the practice group. Type, edit, proofread and finalize documents. Perform other administrative functions and duties as assigned.
  • Publishing and editorial support – Assist in drafting and editing submissions to firm-authored or third-party publications on legal, regulatory and legislative developments
  • Knowledge management support –Act as Resource Custodian and maintain the practice group’s paper and electronic library of research materials, publications, past articles, speeches, newsletters, and research files

Qualifications

Education/Training/Certifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field. An equivalent combination of education and/or experience may be considered in lieu of the degree when the experience has been directly related to the functions of the job
  • Background in, familiarity with, and/or educational training in performing substantive research projects required
  • Basic knowledge with and interest in the insurance industry
  • Basic knowledge of transaction matters in order to perform substantive research functions for the practice group
  • Basic interest in national and international insurance and financial services news and regulatory developments preferred

 

Technical Skills: 

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products

  • Ability to work in a diverse team environment and effectively support the demanding needs of the Firm

The typical pay scale for this position is between $57,700 and $76,200, although the actual wage or salary could be lower or higher if the candidate’s education, experience, skills and internal pay alignment are different from those specified.
