The IT Business Analyst’s overall responsibility is to define and manage complex business and functional requirements to support strategic technology initiatives. The BA is responsible for analyzing and designing business processes, identifying improvement opportunities, and translating business needs into actionable solutions. The BA is responsible for leading productive stakeholder workshops and fostering cross-functional collaboration among business sponsor, project manager, subject matter experts, vendors and the project team for the successful delivery of business solutions.

Responsibilities

Essential Functions: 

  • Serves as a liaison between business and technology stakeholders by building trust and fostering collaborative relationships while providing subject matter expertise on technical systems and processes for assigned area
  • Identifies key business objectives; uncovers business problems and proposes effective technology solutions
  • Examines current business processes and makes recommendations for improving quality and/or efficiency to streamline business unit operations
  • Elicit, analyze, and document requirements clearly and comprehensively by using various tools and techniques, and translate the business needs into appropriate functional and non-functional requirements
  • Collaborates closely with user interface (UI) and user experience (UX) teams to ensure solutions are intuitive, user-friendly, and aligned with usability best practices
  • Drives data gathering, review and analysis of data working closely with business partners to distinguish user requests from true needs efficiently and professionally
  • Manages timely and effective delivery of various business analysis deliverables, including product vision and strategy, business and/or functional requirements specifications, product/sprint backlogs, requirements traceability matrices (RTMs), use cases, personas, prototypes, user stories, business process models, storyboards, workflows and data flow diagrams, user guides etc.
  • Meets with stakeholders regularly to review and validate requirements, critical milestones and dependencies
  • Adopts a structured change request process to evaluate the necessity, impact, and approval of any scope changes.
  • Mitigates possible delays, roadblocks, or issues encountered by remaining vigilant and proactive
  • Resolves conflicts effectively and obtains stakeholder buy-ins by effectively managing expectations throughout the project
  • Responsible for the alignment of user acceptance strategy, testing plans, defects management etc. to the project's business requirements
  • Conducts targeted system testing in collaboration with the testers to ensure the quality and successful implementation of new systems
  • Supports the creation and follow up of project related surveys and end-user communications that clearly explain technical concepts using non-technical language
  • Challenges the status quo; serves as a change agent to help transition the firm from the existing traditional legacy systems into more advanced, technology-driven solutions that will enhance the efficiency, quality, and effectiveness of our global practice
  • Performs other duties as assigned or required to meet firm goals and objectives

Qualifications

Education/Training/Certifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field. An equivalent combination of education and/or experience may be considered in lieu of the degree when the experience has been directly related to the functions of the job
  • Lean Six Sigma Certification (Yellow or Green belt) preferred
  • PMI-PBA Certification preferred

 

Professional Experience: 

  • Must have a minimum of 8 years of experience as a business analyst successfully delivering impactful business process improvements and client focused solutions
  • Must be analytical and solutions oriented towards solving business issues and opportunities, required
  • Must be able to distill critical data to help identify required actions based on indicative results, required
  • 4+ years of IT experience working in the legal industry or professional services preferred

 

Technical Skills: 

  • Must be proficient using business analysis tools and techniques (MS-Office applications including Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Visio, Project, SharePoint), required
  • Strong understanding of project management principles / methodology, required
  • Must have experience working with SDLC frameworks (waterfall, agile and/or hybrid) Must be proficient developing business process models, required (MS Visio, Miro, MS Power Point, or similar)
  • Agile and DevOps experience preferred
  • Business analytics experience preferred (Google Analytics, PowerBI, Tableau, SQL)

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, able to communicate effectively and in a professional manner with all levels of the Firm and outside vendors
  • Ability to work in a diverse team environment and effectively support the demanding needs of the Firm
  • Ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines with shifting priorities
  • Must be a self-starter with a high level of initiative
  • Demonstrates a strong willingness to learn and has curiosity to expand knowledge
  • Strong client-service orientation; able to anticipate needs and exercise independent judgment
  • Strong attention to detail, organizational skills and the ability to handle multiple projects
  • Maintains confidentiality and exercises discretion
  • Exercises solid strategic thinking and problem-solving skills

 

 Physical Requirements:

  • May require travel to other offices or evening conferences

 

 

The typical pay scale for this position in Chicago is between $123,000 and $162,700, although the actual wage or salary could be lower or higher if the candidate’s education, experience, skills and internal pay alignment are different from those specified.
