If you enjoy working with team members whose defining characteristics are exceptional client service, initiative, professionalism, responsiveness, and adaptability, you may be the person we are seeking to join our Paralegal department in our Washington, D.C. office, as a Paralegal: Intellectual Property/ITC.

 

This role will provide support to attorneys in the Intellectual Property practice with special emphasis on U.S. International Trade Commission Section 337 procedures and proceedings.

Responsibilities

Essential Functions: 

  • Prepare and file pleadings, including motions, exhibits, and notices on EDIS and serve opposing counsel
  • Understand and research court/agency rules in preparation for filings and coordinate with the firm’s Docket team to ensure all filings strictly adhere to all federal, state and local court/agency rules and deadlines
  • Coordinate with case team and e-discovery personnel on all aspects of data collection, input and production
  • Prepare for depositions and create witness files
  • Analyze and summarize documents, discovery responses, and other factual information, including sophisticated or technical information related to legal issues
  • Conduct factual research to prepare key fact chronologies and create demonstrative exhibits such as charts, graphs and maps
  • Prepare pre-trial documents and filings, including exhibit list, deposition designations and motions in limine
  • Act as liaison with the firm’s Trial Services team and other departments to coordinate trial logistics
  • Attend and provide support at trial, which includes: monitoring documents and evidence; assuring presence of witnesses; preparing and monitoring visual aids; taking notes on testimony; tracking of exhibits introduced and marked into evidence; digesting trial transcripts; interacting with clients, witnesses, experts, court clerks, and vendors; mentoring junior paralegal trial team members

Qualifications

Education/Training/Certifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Paralegal certificate from ABA approved paralegal program preferred

 

Professional Experience:

  • At least three years of substantive IP litigation experience in a law firm setting preferred
  • Experience with ITC Section 337 investigations and trials

 

Technical Skills: 

  • Proficiency with iManage, Microsoft Suite, Westlaw, Lexis, EDIS and PACER
  • Knowledge of Relativity and general database management
  • Working knowledge with legal case management software such as OPUS 2 preferred

  • Must be a self-starter with a high level of initiative and able to anticipate needs
  • Exercises solid strategic thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Strong attention to detail, organizational skills and the ability to handle multiple projects
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, able to communicate effectively and in a professional manner with all levels of the Firm and outside vendors
  • Ability to work in a diverse team environment and effectively support the demanding needs of the Firm
  • Maintains confidentiality and exercises discretion

 

The typical pay scale for this position is between $75,000 and $99,000, although the actual wage or salary could be lower or higher if the candidate’s education, experience, skills and internal pay alignment are different from those specified.
